KNOW MORE ABOUT

Our #1 priority is increasing voter registration and voter participation among the US citizens living outside the US

Did you know? While 60–65% of American voters living in the U.S. cast ballots, only 3.4% of the 5 million Americans living abroad vote.

Americans Abroad for Democracy aims to change that!

We do this in two main ways:

  1. Helping Americans Abroad Vote. We assist U.S. citizens living overseas with registering to vote, submitting ballots, and tracking their ballots to ensure every vote counts.
  2. Increasing US Voter Participation. Through our dozens of dedicated volunteers—including you, if you’d like to join—we have written thousands of handwritten Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) letters to encourage American voters to make it to the polls on election day.
As a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, Americans Abroad for Democracy supports the 5+ million U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. who care about American democracy, ideals, and its future.

By the 2024 General Election, our efforts achieved:

  • Over 10,000 handwritten GOTV letters sent to voters, 7 of 10
  • Dozens of U.S. citizens registered to vote, and
  • Over $10,000 raised to cover postage and outreach costs.

Together, we are making the voices of Americans abroad heard and counted—and strengthening democracy, one voter at a time.

In addition, Americans for Democracy provides resources for US communities around the world to organize voter registration drives and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) letter writing campaigns.

Finally, Americans Abroad for Democracy encourages Americans abroad to get involved in their local communities by providing a space for Americans around the world to post information about and invite others to join their local volunteer activities.

As of the 2024 General Election, over 10,000 get-out-the-vote handwritten letters were written and mailed to voters, dozens of US citizens were registered to vote, and over $10,000 was raised to cover the cost of postage!
